Figure Drawing Studio
Monday Evenings 6:30-8:30pm
at the Village Arts Building
This group comes together on Mondays from 6:30-8:30pm to draw the clothed figure. There is no instruction, just a host to guide the proceedings. Artists are invited to attend as often as they like.
The idea for this Drawing Studio sprouted when Chris Woomer was wondering about the quickest way to enhance her own drawing skills. Chris recognized that since the dawn of time, drawing the figure has always been the greatest challenge, any day, for any artist, beginner to professional. And so, our Figure Drawing Studio was born!
Everyone brings their own materials to work with. So far we’ve seen pencil, markers, pen, charcoal, pastels, watercolors, acrylic paints and oil paints on white or colored paper and cardboard. We have 6 drawing benches with masonite boards, easels and a couple of tables. The evening begins on time at 6:30 (come a bit early if you need time to set-up) with a couple of 5 minute standing poses for warm up. We then proceed to 20 minute seated poses. Knowing that time is limited helps an artist to trust and draw what they SEE, not what they THINK.
Every pose presents a different angle and shadow, so each and every feature you draw that night is different. We take a few moments in between poses to stretch and enjoy a peek at some of the drawings. You are welcome to bring drinks and snacks. We are a very welcoming group that supports each others every effort. It is so inspiring to see all the different styles, perspectives, compositions and improvement each night. We would love to expand our short list of models. So we welcome any friends or family that might enjoy an evening out, enjoying the company of artists and see likenesses of themselves while listening to some relaxing music. Please note: On occasion, the FIGURE DRAWING STUDIO will be cancelled due to other events previously scheduled for the space. If local offices and/or schools are closed because of Holidays or inclement weather we will also be closed.
