I started photography in a semi-serious way in about 1975. Then came a career and family. I kept at photography, but as a smaller part of my activities. After the kids were grown and winding down my career at the University of Michigan, I once again delved into it, this time learning digital imaging and printing. I feel printing one’s own work keeps complete control over the processes and the resulting art that comes from it.
If I have a style it comes from my film days and study of the masters (Adams, Weston, White, Cunningham and onto those like Mann and Uelsman). I strive to present my photos as technically good as possible and to be interesting either generally or personally. I am drawn to black and white for the artistic qualities it can exhibit, but I also work in color.
