Introduction to Wheel throwing with Lani Hoenscheid-Smith
Mondays and Wednesdays 6/23 - 7/23 from 9am - 12pm

This is a five week (10 day) pottery class, teaching the basics of wheel-throwing. You will learn the basics of the pottery wheel: throwing process, materials, tools, and techniques. You may be new to wheel throwing or haven’t thrown in a long time and want to get started again. Student can expect to create several finished pieces. Direct instruction will be given on throwing bowls, mugs, and vases.

Students will be required to purchase clay from the Northport Arts Association office, which includes the cost for clay, glazes, and firing. The clay cost $100 for 25lbs of clay and covers firings and glazes.
Students can bring their own tools or use what is available in the clay studio.

Lani Hoenscheid Smith has used her Certification in Arts Education in many ways since receiveing it from Grand Valley State University. In addition to teaching pottery privately for over 20 years, she has taught students at Blue Lakes Fine Arts Camp as well as both Leland and St. Mary’s schools. She has also put her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Art Therapy to use over the years. Her goal is to help others learn and grow through the arts.
